Vacant Lot Beautification Project, 118th Street & Doty Ave (Hawthorne, California)

Currently FLTS is working to convert a vacant lot in the city of Hawthorne into a neighborhood park. FLTS is working with the city and community members to create a successful plan of action.

Marked lot:
On the corner where 118th street and Doty Avenue meet.
Size:
13,068 sq. ft.
Vacancy:
Close to 20 years
Lot Owner:
as of July 2006, California Department of Transportation (CalTrans)
Violations:
Large garbage piles, overgrown grass and weeds (which poses a fire threat), car vandalism, prostitution, presence of rodents, raccoons, large cockroaches and opossums. (as reported by neighbors)
Proposed plan:
A neighborhood park or community garden - final decision to be made by community members
